People did do nutty things before there were reality show producers! In the mid 1920s a Russian woman fed up with life in NYC began a journey on foot to Russia. She trekked 20-30 miles a day covering over 5000 miles thru Canada and Alaska. Even though she did not talk much, as her standard reply to "what are you doing?" was "I go to Siberia" Good Samaritan lineman on the Telegraph Trail helped her along her journey providing occasional shelter, meals and even a dog for companionship.
