Tom Petty’s Wife And Daughters Finally Reach Agreement On His Estate

Back in April it was reported that Tom Petty's wife, Dana York Petty, and two daughters from the late-Rock and Roll Hall of Famer's first marriage, Annakim Violette and Adria Petty, were in a legal battle over who would run his estate.

After his death on Oct. 2, 2017, Petty's will listed his wife of 10 years as the trustee of his trust and terms entitled his daughters to "equal participation" in how his extensive catalog is licensed and released.

After suing Dana Petty in May for $5 million (she also countersued), it seems like Annakim, Adria and their step-mom have settled things.

On Wednesday (December 18) it was announced that the two parties have finally reached an agreement over his estate. The LA Times reports that both parties, “will serve as equal participants in the release of additional recordings and other projects.”

“We are pleased to announce the formation of Tom Petty Legacy, LLC to manage all aspects of Tom’s Legacy,” the three women said in a joint statement as reported by the LA Times. “We are committed to honoring Tom’s voice, music, integrity and his charitable spirit.”

The initial dispute came about after Dana Petty wanted to include unreleased tracks from Petty's 1994 solo album on a 25th anniversary edition box set but his daughters blocked the release.

In addition, the two parties started to feud over using the late legend's image on a range of salad dressing. At the time, Dana Petty called the plan a "sad perversion of Tom's legacy."

Now, each member of the family will be equally involved in his legacy and moving forward will work together on future releases. “Each member of the family will have equal standing in Tom Petty Legacy, LLC and will work together on all future endeavors,” they explained in the statement. “The business will build upon Tom’s 40+ years of great music and his historic career.”
